Sept. 3, 2017 – Last day for registrations before auditions.
• Sept. 8-9, 2017 – All placement auditions: OTSS, 485 Donald St., Ottawa.
• Sept. 15, 2017 – Registrations re-open.
• Sept. 16, 2017 – First day of rehearsals for OYO and OJYO at the OTSS.
• Sept. 23, 2017 – First day of classes for all other groups.

OYOA classes run from September to May.

Preschool Music I Classes for children age 3 are designed to nurture the musical creativity and confidence of the young child. Includes songs, games, movement activities and use of rhythm instruments. Saturdays

Preschool Music II Classes for children age 4 are designed to nurture the musical creativity and confidence of the young child. Includes songs, games, movement activities and use of rhythm instruments. Saturdays 9:45-10:45 $355
Preparatory Music I Geared to the curiosity and wider experience of the young school-age child (age 5). Classes include songs, games, rhythm ensembles, musical notation and history. Saturdays 10:00-11:00 $355
Preparatory Music II The basic elements of music are taught using speech, rhythm, movement and improvisation. A good bridge for those children ( aged 6-8) interested in the future study of a musical instrument. Also teaches group skills necessary for participation in musical ensembles. Beginner Strings This program introduces children ages 6-7 and ages 8-12 to stringed instruments, and explores the basic elements of music through singing, speech and movement. Saturdays 8:40-9:40 $435
Beginner Double Bass Students receive instruction on the string bass and in basic music theory essential to this exciting instrument.To encourage study and help get students up to speed on this critical orchestral instrument, the one-hour group lesson on Saturdays is complemented by the FREE loan of an instrument for the duration of the season and a complimentary package of 10 half-hour private lessons (TOTAL VALUE: $1750.) Primary Strings Provides the student's first exposure to ensemble-playing and is a complement to private lessons. Candidates must be a minimum of 6 years of age and have been taking lessons for at least one year. Playing level equivalent to at least RCM Grade 1. Saturdays 9:45-10:45 $435
Junior Strings Introduction to orchestral playing, using varying rhythms and learning to follow the conductor's instructions for tempo and dynamics. Playing level equivalent to at least RCM Grades 2 and 3. Saturdays 10:00-11:30 $460
Intermediate Strings Further exploration of orchestral playing by looking at different styles of music and a variety of articulations, dynamics and bowing techniques. Playing level equivalent to at least RCM Grade 4. Saturdays 10:00-12:00 $540
Senior Strings Provides students with an advanced repertoire that includes sophisticated rhythms, fingerings and technical requirements. Playing level equivalent to at least RCM Grade Level 5. Saturdays 10:00-12:00 $540
Recorder Ensemble This class introduces young students up to 10 years of age to the recorder. Preparation for children interested in winds/brass. Saturdays 10-11 $435
Beginner Winds This class is an excellent extension of the beginner recorder program, although it is not a prerequisite. Saturdays 8:45-9:45 $435

Senior Chamber Winds Provides advanced woodwind and brass players with the opportunity to further develop their skills as ensemble musicians through the study of wind chamber music. Junior Brass Ensemble Provides the student's first exposure to ensemble-playing. Playing level at least one year of experience on their instrument. Saturdays 9:30-11:00 $460
Intermediate Brass Ensemble Provides the more experienced brass players one more level of pure brass ensemble-playing before moving on to mixed ensembles. Playing level 2-3 years of experience on their instrument Saturdays 11:15-12:45 $460
Beginner Harp Ensemble Ages 6-8. First ensemble experience. This one hour class is open to beginning harp students with no previous ensemble experience. To encourage study and help get students up to speed on this critical orchestral instrument, the one-hour group lesson on Saturdays is complemented by the FREE loan of an instrument for the duration of the season and a complimentary package of 10 half-hour private lessons (TOTAL VALUE: $1000.) Junior Harp Ensemble Ages 6-10. This weekly ensemble class builds upon skills acquired in the Beginning Harp Ensemble. Students will participate in numerous creative activities and group performances. Saturdays 10-11 $435
Intermediate Harp Ensembles Harp students build essential ensemble skills within a chamber setting. Saturdays 11-12 $435
Senior Harp Ensemble Provides an opportunity for advanced harp students to explore challenging ensemble repertoire and to focus on performance skills within a chamber setting. In addition to repertoire for harp ensemble, students will gain experience with orchestral excerpts written for multiple harps. Saturdays TBD $435
Percussion Ensemble This ensemble prepares percussionists for the Ottawa Junior Youth Orchestra and Ottawa Youth Orchestra. The group focuses on basic skills on snare drum, tympani, xylophone, cymbals, bass drum and other orchestral instruments. Saturdays 8:45-9:45 $435
Ottawa Junior Youth Orchestra The OJYO provides advanced string, wind ,brass and percussion students with a full orchestral experience, including sectional coaching, and a number of performance opportunities. Saturdays 10:00-13:00 $675
Ottawa Youth Orchestra The OYO provides the Academy's most experienced players with the opportunity to learn advanced orchestral repertoire and to perform in at least three public concerts each year. Saturdays 10:00-13:00 $825
