oyo

The Ottawa Youth Orchestra (OYO) provides the Academy's most experienced players with the opportunity to learn advanced orchestral repertoire and to perform in at least three public concerts each year.

Recent seasons have featured orchestra tours to Italy, England, Ireland, Wales, Hungary, Austria, and Newfoundland.

The orchestra is planning a performance tour to Europe in the spring of 2013.

Many alumni of the Ottawa Youth Orchestra have gone on to pursue careers as professional musicians and remained active in music as members of community orchestras.

Each year, a September retreat is held, where the musicians are introduced to the fall repertoire, and have a chance to get to know the conductor, the coaches, and their fellow musicians.

Placement in the OYO is based on an audition, held in early September. Rehearsals are held Saturday mornings, 10:00-13:00, at the Ottawa Technical Secondary School, 485 Donald St., Ottawa.
