ojyo

The Ottawa Junior Youth Orchestra (OJYO) provides advanced string, wind ,brass and percussion students with a full orchestral experience, including sectional coaching, and a number of performance opportunities.

Recent years have featured OJYO performances at the Centrepointe Theatre, sponsored by the Telus Community Foundation. These concerts present the OJYO and the orchestral repertoire for an audience of approximately 1,800 Ottawa area school children.

In 2010, the OJYO won a Gold Level award at the National Capital Region Kiwanis festival, and a 1st place at the provincial Ontario Music Festival Association (Community Symphony Orchestra). In 2012, the OJYO won a Gold Standard at the National MusicFest competition in Ottawa.

Each year, a September retreat is held, where the musicians are introduced to the fall repertoire, and have a chance to get to know the conductor, the coaches, and their fellow musicians.

Placement in the OJYO is based on an audition, held in early September. Rehearsals are held Saturday mornings 10:00-13:00, at the Ottawa Technical Secondary School, 485 Donald St., Ottawa.
